Välkommen Mr Chance! (1979) tells the story of a simple-minded gardener named Chance, who has spent his entire life in the Washington D.C. house of an old man. By chance, he has a run-in with a limousine, which leads him to become a guest in the home of a woman named Eve and her husband Ben, a powerful but ill businessman. In this new environment, Chance takes on a new identity as Chauncey Gardner.

Chauncey quickly becomes a close friend and confidante to Ben, and his presence within the household starts to have a profound impact on the political landscape. Despite his limited understanding of the world, his simple and wise observations on gardening are interpreted by influential figures as insightful political commentary.
