In the movie Balansakten (2025–), the world is divided by the Cold War into two opposing camps, with the brotherly nations of Sweden and Finland caught in the middle between East and West, Warsaw Pact and NATO, relying on each other for survival. Any misstep by either country could spell disaster for both. Over three decades, audiences witness the struggle of these nations to maintain their independence and neutrality amidst crises, spy scandals, submarine intrusions, nuclear programs, and deadly aerial maneuvers.
The film features interviews with key figures such as Martin Hårdstedt, a professor at Umeå University, Jan Mattson, a former reconnaissance pilot, Juhana Aunesluoma, a professor at the University of Helsinki, Veli-Pekka Lehto, a former combat pilot and colonel, Seppo Tiitinen, former head of the Finnish Security Police, and Tommy Peterson, the deputy chief of the Air Force, among others.
Balansakten offers a gripping portrayal of the delicate balance maintained by these nations as they navigate the treacherous waters of international politics and military tensions, highlighting the importance of cooperation and solidarity in the face of grave threats.
