Details
In the movie Surveillant! directed by Corinne Maillard, the story revolves around the Chénoise detention center where Corinne Maillard serves as the director. She is portrayed as an overprotective figure towards the inmates and her team of guards, displaying a maternal instinct that sometimes becomes smothering. However, the dynamics at the center shift dramatically when Corinne's estranged son is incarcerated in her facility.
As Corinne grapples with the challenges of maintaining her professional responsibilities while dealing with the personal turmoil of having her son under her roof as an inmate, the film explores themes of family, trust, and redemption. The tension escalates as Corinne must navigate the complexities of her dual roles as a mother and a prison official, leading to emotional and moral dilemmas that shape the narrative.
Surveillant! provides a compelling and nuanced exploration of the impact of familial relationships in the context of a correctional facility, shedding light on the complexities of human connection and the consequences of choices made in the pursuit of justice.
